WE ARE TORU AND CRISTINA
co-funding Directors of Atelier EURA

Having left our hometowns in Japan and Spain for London, we started collaborating in 2004 at an architectural studio where we were Associates.

Years later, bringing together the skills we acquired in practice and our personal projects, we set up Atelier EURA.

From the start, we knew we wanted to provide design services in a manner that challenged the stereotypical view many have of the profession, and our clients seem to like this.

WORKING WITH ATELIER EURA

some of the things we expect you may want to know

WHY WORK WITH AN ARCHITECT?

An architect has experience balancing complex, often conflicting, issues to steer design in the direction the best possible solutions for the benefit of their clients. They do so by taking into consideration functionality, sustainability, aesthetics, cost and regulatory constraints in every project. Their role is to work with you as an independent adviser and help you explore ways in which your needs and wishes can be met while balancing them with legal requirements and other obligations.

WHAT DOES AN ARCHITECT DO?

In the UK, some people assume architects do pretty pictures and design concepts that engineers need to "make work" and stand for the builders build. This is not true. In reality, architects provide a range of services and expertise to their clients ranging from design to procurement but also other related matters including but not limited to: Reviewing conditions related to your home's title that may prevent you from achieving your design objectives. Managing compliance with statutory and lease related obligations and/or conditions. Leading your team of experts and orchestrate their specialist contributions to the project at every stage Translating your needs and wishes into designs and those into drawings that builders can use to build from . Problem solving during construction to help the team on site achieve the best outcome.

HOW DO WE WORK?

Since every client is different, at the start of every project there is a call aimed at getting to know our clients and/or their businesses and stablish what drives them and what their needs and expectations are. From this discussion, we scope the kind of services we propose to suit the project and invite the client to review and comment in their own time. Once we firm up the scope, and using a language our clients understand, we proceed to develop the Design Brief (a roadmap, if you will, to help us turn their vision into a reality). As part of this process we will identify any specialist skills that may be required and help the client build a project team. Subject to the project needs, this may involve a structural, MEP, acoustic or fire engineer as well as CDM/ Principal Designer, surveyors or others. Together with the specialists, we will refine the design strategy until it works both for the client and their property and develop a design. Once complete, our collective work will be priced by one or more contractors, one of whom will deliver the project and we support them by providing design solutions throughout the construction process.

WHAT DRIVES US?

We are driven by the desire to facilitate our clients’ dreams and use Design's inherent power to do so. To us, design is the result of many factors which include context, culture, ethos and purpose. Our origins and experiences shape ours and, should you choose to work with us, we will ensure yours are also reflected in your project.

WHAT DO WE BRING TO THE TABLE?

The value we are able to bring to each project is the result of decades of experience working in the UK and abroad. Since we founded our studio, we have worked closely with private clients and independent businesses helping them use different design vehicles to consolidate their visual identity and create spaces that fit their needs,  Working with private individuals, we have designed interiors that have made the most of our client's available space and provided unique responses to suit their requirements.

WHY OUR NAME?

An atelier is a workshop or studio, a place to encourage creativity, where those who are part of it can work together under a common name. It was the standard vocational practice set up for European creative from the middle ages until the nineteenth century and remains a common set up in architectural studios. EURA comes from Eurasia, the largest continent on earth which connects Europe and Asia. It is where we come from and where we live and work. It is also the continent which houses 70% of the world’s population and one which is rich in culture, design and architecture and hence, an endless source of inspiration to us. Each one of the cultures interconnected within Eurasia has its own architecture, evolved as a response to their own environment. These include our own, which in fact have more in common than one could expect.
